Project Title

Project Acronym
AGILE

Principal Investigator
Prof. Tom van Engers
Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid, Universiteit van Amsterdam

Summary of research proposal
In this research project we aim at developing a design method, distributed service architecture and supporting tools that enable organisations to govern their law based information services in a networked environment. Legal pluralism, the need for integrated services and specific requirements for a knowledge representation suited for expressing legal knowledge and legal reasoning demand a specific service architecture. The project will use knowledge representations developed within the semantic web community as a starting point but will extend those representations with elements specific for the legal domain. Furthermore, based on complex-adaptive systems theory it will develop a service design and modelling method which should help organizations to horizontally adapt to new or changing laws. This method takes the inherent unpredictability and existing situation blocking adaptation into account.

The consortium consists of academic partners with expertise in ICT-service engineering, AI and Law and Semantic Web technology, industry and a large public administration.
